Freakily connected...

Paula announced to me the other day that she had a present for me and would bring it over the next time she was in my office building.

Yesterday, I had an issue with my eye and stopped into DrugTown to pick up some Visine. While there I saw that they had my favorite Valentine candy which proved impossible to find last year - cherry gummy hearts. I grabbed a bag, despite my diet.

There I was at my desk yesterday afternoon, heart gummy poised in midair in front of my waiting mouth and Paula shows up with my present - with a bag of cherry gummy hearts.

The other shoe...

Ever have that feeling that you are waiting for something bad to happen? I have been having a strange nagging feeling for the last four days. There is nothing apparently wrong. There is not obviously out of order. I just have a weird sense of foreboding.
I can be fine and all of a sudden get very nervous and jittery. If I didn't know better I would say I had a guilty conscience about something, but I haven't done anything that would be bothering me.
I hope it goes away soon - it's freaking me out.

Big Dick

It pained me, but after weeks and weeks of checking on Big Dick's blog, only to find it gone, I have finally removed him from my blogroll. Does anyone know what happened to him?

Kinda Cool Nerd...

Just HAD to take the nerd test linked from Midwest Bloggin! I really didn't think I was answering that nerdy, but... Then I tried the loser test to hopefully regain some degree of hipness. Below are my results.

Laptop woes continue...

The new hard drive was DOA. Well, not dead, but seriously disfigured. They are sending it back in for a new one - again.
This time they are sending my setup disks along with so they can actually have it in working order before shipping it back. What a concept.

Yikes!

Time really flies when you're not blogging! Apologies to anyone who has been checking this blog only to find NADA. Not much has been going on, actually.

Another trip to Best Buy is in order. The laptop that I let my son borrow needed a new hard drive. I just picked it up on Friday and was informed that they "can't find" any of the system recovery disks for that models - so "good luck with that". Well, I'm not a complete computer idiot, and I knew I had the disks, so I set about restoring it myself rather that causing a scene at that time.

The stupid operating system won't even restore. It gets almost done and throws up a fatal error that there is something wrong with recently installed hardware. Hmmmm.....Stupid bastards. I'm taking it back today - with the disks - for my overdue scene. How fucking stupid is it to NOT have the install and recovery disks for a models that is still under warranty???? I know...don't even say it...it's Best Buy. In actuality, it is the manufacturer that it was sent to for repair who didn't have the disks - which makes it even more ridiculous. The pimply children in the "service center" at Best Buy have VERY limited skills - and need cheat sheets bound, tabbed, and color-coded to accomplish the basic tasks they perform.

Welcome 2005!

Nothing like a good old snowstorm to welcome in the new year! Here is a picture of our deck taken out my family room window on Thursday morning. The table in the picture is a full-sized oval table that seats six, so you can see how much snow built up on it's top. It's a good 14 inches.
The boys have had fun with snowball fights and sledding - and of course, school cancellations.
Next week is supposed to bring more ice. Ah, the joys of winter in Iowa!

Snowed in...

First came the ice - then the snow. It's still coming down out there. We are supposed to have 12 inches by the time it's through. (Wonder how many perverted Google searches will pull up this entry?)

I've been taking pictures of the table on our deck through the window throughout the day to document how much snow is accumulating. I'll post the final picture.

The kids are thrilled with the snow. It's the first accumulation of the winter and it has extended Christmas vacation from school four days and counting (they have already announced the cancellation for tomorrow).

I did make it to work on Tuesday, but since I can work from home and it takes close to an hour on slippery roads to get to the office, it only makes sense to stay home.

I was actually working today and needed the Novell client in order to access a couple of servers through my VPN connection. It downloaded, installed, and congratulated me on a successful install with the caveat that I needed to reboot to complete the installation. Yeah...kiss my desktop goodbye is what the message should have said. It wouldn't reboot unless in safe mode. The afternoon was taken up with doing data backups while in safe mode and doing a reimage of my laptop. Novell bastards.

Way to go Hawks!

I needed CPR during the last two minutes of the Capital One Bowl! What an exciting finish for the Iowa Hawkeyes!

New Year's Day was a complete veg out starting with the Rose Parade. I am awed annually at the detail of the floats.

Flipped channels for the Iowa/LSU game, followed by the Rose Bowl (another nail biter), and the Fiesta Bowl. I was mainlining football and loved every minute of it. Too bad my husband doesn't get into football. I am the proverbial fan - on the couch with popcorn and beer - rooting for my team, or the underdog (if I don't have a clear favorite).

A few more bowl games to go and then the drought. Ah well, I still have Hawkeye basketball.
